Long-distance microwave data links provide high-speed wireless communication between two locations without using fiber optic cables. A directional dish antenna at each site sends and receives microwave signals through a clear line-of-sight path. The outdoor unit (ODU) is connected to the antenna, while the indoor unit (IDU) processes the data and connects to the local network through a router and switch. Proper grounding protects the equipment from lightning and electrical faults. Microwave links can deliver data rates up to 1 Gbps or more over tens of kilometers, making them ideal for telecom networks, internet backhaul, industrial sites, and remote area connectivity.
